Introduction

August 2008

Dear Parents or Guardians of 5S,

Welcome to a new school year at Chaney Elementary! I hope you enjoyed your summer vacation. I would like to take a few moments to introduce myself. My name is Ms. Swiersz and I will be your child's 5th grade teacher this school year. This is my first year teaching and I am very excited to have the pleasure of teaching your child and learning from them as well. I graduated from Benedictine University with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education. Some of my interests are reading, playing basketball, and doing anything outside.

As an educator, I value my job and the opportunity that I will have to teach your child the requirements he/she will need to complete by the end of this school year successfully. Your child’s success in my classroom is my number one priority.

This year we have a really exciting curriculum planned.  In Science we will be doing a Science Fair in which the students will work in groups to plan an experiment.  In Language arts, we will be putting on a play for all relatives and faculty.  Also, we will be hosting a multi-cultural Fair.  The students will be assessed on the content of the projects, their participation, on-task behavior time, and ability to work in a group.  The grading scale is the usual A100-90, B 89-80, C79-70, D69-60, F59-Below. On my website, you will find a list of necessary supplies your child will need, a class schedule, classroom rules, and a weekly newsletter.

In the newsletter, you will find a weekly progress report for your child as well as a list of assignments.  Also, I will post important dates in the newsletter including assignment due dates, birthdays, early/late dismissals, and activity dates.  I will briefly describe what we are doing in each subject in the newsletter as well.  Finally, I will have a recognition page for the students who have standout behavior.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 815-555-2323 or KSwiersz@Chaney.edu

Sincerely,
Ms. Swiersz
